Benzoic acid, C6H5COOH, the simplest aromatic acid in which the carboxyl group is directly linked to the carbon atom of the benzene ring. It is a compound in which a hydrogen in the benzene ring is replaced by a carboxyl group (-COOH). It is a colorless, tasteless sheet crystal. The melting point is 122.13ºC, the boiling point is 249ºC, and the relative density is 1.2659 (15/4 ºC).
It is used in the production of medicine, dye carrier, plasticizer, flavor and food preservative, etc. It is also used in the performance improvement of alkyd resin coatings.
It is used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals and dyes, for making plasticizers and spices, etc. It is also used as an antirust agent in steel and iron equipment
