Sodium ethanol. It is one of the typical alkols, non-toxic, strongly alkaline, chemical formula CH3CH2ONa. Molecular weight 68.05. White or light yellow powder. It absorbs moisture easily. It is highly soluble in polar solvents (such as ethanol), and its ethanol solution is stable. Decomposition by exposure to air. The color gradually darkens over time. When exposed to water, it decomposes into sodium hydroxide and ethanol.
The industrial product is often an ethanol solution of sodium ethanoethanol (the content is generally 17%), which is reacted by ethanol and sodium hydroxide, and added to benzene for azeotropic distillation, so that benzene, ethanol and water form a ternary azeotrope, and the water generated in the reaction process is removed and the benzene is evaporated.
