Boric acid is also known as orthoboric acid.It is made by reacting naturally occurring borax (sodium borate) with acid.Chemical formula H3BO3.The molecular weight is 61.83.White triaxial scales with glossy crystals.Relative density 1.43514, refractive index 1.337, 1.461, 1.462.Soluble in water, ethanol Chemicalbook and glycerin.The aqueous solution is acidic and is a single weak acid (Ka=6×10-10).Solubility in water increases with temperature.Heat to 169ºC(±1ºC) dehydration to produce metaborate, 300ºC into boric anhydride.Neutralize with a strong base to produce metaborate.Tetraborate was obtained under the condition of weak alkalinity.
