Tetrahydrofuran, THF, is a heterocyclic organic compound. It belongs to the ether class and is the complete hydrogenation product of the aromatic compound furan. Tetrahydrofuran is one of the strongest polar ethers, used as a medium polar solvent in chemical reaction and extraction, colorless volatile liquid at room temperature, known as "universal solvent".
At room temperature, it is partially miscible with water, and some illegal reagent vendors use this to make huge profits on tetrahydrofuran reagents mixed with water. Due to the tendency of THF to form peroxide in storage, industrial products are generally added with the antioxidant BHT. Moisture content <=0.2%. It has the characteristics of low toxicity, low boiling point and good fluidity.

1. It can be used as the solvent and the raw material of organic synthesis.
2. It can also be used as the chromatography analysis reagents, organic solvents and the intermediate of nylon .
3. Tetrahydrofuran is the intermediate for synthetic pesticides .
4. THF is an important raw material for organic synthesis as well as a solvent with excellent performance, which is especially suitable for dissolution of PVC, polyvinylidene chloride and butyl aniline.
