BTA mainly used as antirust agent and corrosion inhibitor for metals. It is widely used in the antirust oil products such as gasphase corrosion inhibitor , in treating agent for recycling water ,in antifreeze for cars antifogging for photgraph , also used as stabilizer for macromolecular compound growth regulator for plant, lubricant additive , ultraviolet absorbent etc. It can be used together with many kind of scale inhibitors and bactericide andalgaecide , show excellent anticorrosion effect in close recycling cooling water system.

Production method:
It is obtained by the reaction of phthalamide and sodium nitrite.Adding o-phenylendiamine 50 ºC dissolve in water, adding glacial acetic acid, cooled to 5 ºC, stir in sodium nitrite reaction.Gradually become dark green of reactants, temperature rise to 70-80 ºC, the solution becomes nacarat, place 2 h at room temperature, cooling, filtering out crystallization, use cold water washing, dry rough, coarse product vacuum distillation, collected 201-204 ºC (2.0 kPa) fractions, reoccupy benzene recrystallization, available product melting point is 96-97 ºC, the yield is about 80%.It has been reported that sodium nitrite is used to deal with the condensation wastewater of polymyxin and the byproduct benzotriazole.
For anti-rust oil (fat) in the products, many of vapor phase inhibitors used in copper and copper alloy circulating water treatment agent, automobile antifreeze, photographic antifoggant, polymer stabilizers, plant growth regulator, lubricating oil additives, uv absorber, etc.
The product can also be used with a variety of scale inhibitors, sterilization and algicide.
