      Polyoxymethylene (IUPAC named Polyoxymethylene, POM) is a polymer of formaldehyde (high molecular weight polyformaldehyde) with a general structural length of eight to one hundred units. Long chain polyformaldehyde is commonly made in heat-resistant plastics, also known as polyformaldehyde plastic (POE, DuPont produced Derlin). Paraformaldehyde decomposes quickly and releases a slightly smelly formaldehyde. White flammable crystalline powder with formaldehyde odor. Dissolve slowly in cold water, dissolve faster in hot water. The solubility of water at 20ºC is 0.24g/100cm3H2O. Insoluble in ethanol and ether. Soluble in caustic soda, potassium solution.

2.   Polyformaldehyde is a solid formaldehyde with high formaldehyde content, which is in the form of solid particles and is easy to store and transport.   It can become formaldehyde vapor at a higher temperature, which is easy to replace high concentration formaldehyde to participate in various reactions, which is conducive to chemical synthesis and other industrial applications, especially in the synthesis of anhydrous formaldehyde as a raw material, and is widely used.   There are mainly the following aspects: (1) pesticides: synthetic acetochlor, butylachlor and glyphosate;   (2) Paint: synthetic high-grade automotive paint;   (3) Resin: synthetic urea formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin, polyacetal resin, melamine resin, ion exchange resin and various adhesives;   (4) Papermaking: synthetic paper reinforcement;   (5) Casting: sanding defilm agent, synthetic casting adhesive;   (6) Aquaculture: fumigation disinfectant.   (7) Organic raw materials: used to prepare, trimethylol propane, glycerin, acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, n-hydroxymethyl acrylamide, alkyl phenol, methyl vinyl ketone, etc. (8) Other: medicine and disinfection.
